Joe is a trusted international development specialist with 18 years of experience leading high-impact projects, transactions and teams across Africa, South Asia and Europe. He specialises in private sector-driven poverty reduction and financial market systems development. I have a proven track record in senior positions at British International Investment (BII) in London, FSD Africa in Nairobi, and the UK's Department for International Development (DFID/FCDO) in Whitehall. He combines on-the-ground delivery experience in over 20 emerging markets, including in fragile states, with living and working in Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa. Between 2021-2024, his BII team was responsible for the impact appraisal, management and performance of a portfolio of c.95 (or c.$4bn) financial firms and funds, including micro-finance providers (MFPs). He played a key role on the Development Impact leadership team and led the reboot of BII's approach to portfolio impact monitoring and management, MSME finance and Frontier Markets. In November 2024, he left BII to start his own consulting practice.
